Are you struggling to stay well this cold + flu season?

This post will surprise you with the simple fruit of elderberry and the most effective way to help keep you and your loved ones healthy.

What’s elderberry anyways?

To be honest, I did not know that elderberries even existed as a powerful fruit until a couple of years ago.

Elderberries have been making a grand debut in the health world as this amazing super berry chock full of fiber, low-fat content, a low glycemic index food, and a significant amount of vitamin C + anthocyanin that gives the fruit its dark, black, purple color.

Anthocyanin is just a fancy word for saying that elderberries are a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that benefit those who consume these berries in multiple ways.

This powerful little fruit, elderberry, has been proven to reduce cold+flu symptoms in individuals on an average of 4 days earlier with less use of rescue medication.

One HUGE benefit of elderberries.

Helps with cold + flu symptoms.

Elderberries have an antiviral activity against the cold+flu that reduces the severity.

Since my kids got their first cold+flu, I gave them everything under the sun just so that they would feel better. But it was frustrating that their symptoms would drag on for weeks even after having them down so many over-the-counter concoctions.

Until I found out the power of elderberry.

I remember one late night in desperation I ordered these elderberries to make homemade elderberry syrup. I thought it wouldn’t hurt to try!

This recipe has been proven to cut my kid’s and my cold+flu symptoms in half.

It’s super easy to make with just 4 simple ingredients. Try it out the next time you have cold+flu symptoms and let me know what it did for you!

Want other ideas on how to consume elderberries?

A couple of other ways to consume elderberries to boost your body’s immune function can be in your smoothie and tea.

Smoothie:

Blend elderberry syrup with any frozen fruit of your choice.

Tea:

2 cups water

2 Tbsp dried elderberries

1 cinnamon stick

  • In a small pot, combine all of the ingredients.
  • Bring the pot to boil, then reduce to low heat and let the tea simmer for 15 minutes after it begins to boil.
  • Turn off the heat and leave the tea to rest for 5 minutes once it has simmered.
  • Strain the tea into a cup with a fine mesh sleeve. (this Rosle stainless steel fine mesh is our household favorite and is still sturdy after all these years!)
  • Drink + Enjoy!
